PAC hands Lugumi report over to Speaker Ndugai
The Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has handed its preliminary report on investigations into the Sh37 billion forensic contract scandal between Lugumi Enterprises Ltd and the Police Force to the National Assembly Speaker Job Ndugai, The Citizen has been reliably informed.
One member of the PAC confided with this paper today saying they decided to write to Mr Ndugai a summary of their findings and presented to him names of MPs who would form a subcommittee to dig further on the matter.
“The speaker is expected to give his approval, and then the subcommittee will be given all technical, financial and logistical assistance by the National Assembly to conduct further probe on this case,” said The Citizen’s well-placed source, adding:
“This issue is very thorny, and it involves some big people in the system and that makes it more complicated, but at the same time interesting.”
Section 117 (18) allows any parliamentary committee to form a subcommittee for a better execution of its responsibilities.
However, when confronted by reporters today, PAC deputy chairman and Sumbawanga Urban MP Aeshi Hilary neither confirmed nor denied about the matter, only saying they were still busy probing the matter and they would come out tomorrow and tell the public how far they had gone with their investigations.
